Ritu Sethi, a leading Asian female solicitor is set to address an audience of approximately 250 opinion formers, policy makers, business owners and senior management professionals, including Chief Executives, Directors and Managing Directors from across London’s business, voluntary, and public sectors during the Mayor of London’s Asian Business Conference 2006 at City Hall, London on Wednesday 14th June 2006.
The conference’s overriding theme is Entrepreneurship and the contribution of Asian business people and Asian owned businesses to London’s economy. The conference will focus on the challenges and opportunities faced by businesses and entrepreneurs in London. It looks set to offer interesting and topical debate into the role of Asian businesses and their contribution to London in general and to its economy.
FACT :
• Asian-owned firms provide around 300,000 jobs to the London economy. This represents around 12 per cent of total employment by firms covered in the London Annual Business Survey (2004).
• The strength of entrepreneuriaism among the Asian community in London is illustrated by the high rates of self-employment. According to the 2001 Census, Indian, Pakistani and Chinese individuals are more likely to be self-employed that the average for the population as a whole.

In November 2000, she won the Asian Business Owner of the Year Award, awarded by the European Federation of Black Women Business Owners, sponsored by BT. She has also been nominated for an Asian Achievement award for Business Women of the Year, 2003 and was nominated for Legal Personality of the Year by the Society of Asian Lawyers in 2005.
